LONE STAR FARM THROUGH THE YEARS
THE SETTLERS GENERATION 2
Harry W. and Fannie Brown moved to the farm at Sperling, Manitoba from Rockford, Illinois in 1907. They brought their family of 2 sons and 5 daughters ages 5 to 21 years with them. Harry Brown had farmed and operated a lime kiln in Rockford. He chose Manitoba over Texas which was the other option he considered for the family move. The farm name, Lone Star Farm came in reference to that other option. Harry was widely know as "Yankee Brown" for his steadfast American patriotism and to differentiate him from another Harry Brown who had moved to the area from Eastern Canada.

Harry and Fannie's sons Orville and Chester took over the family farm in the 1920's. Orville married Norma Stonhouse and had a family of 2 boys (Glenn and Gordon) and 5 girls (Alice, Carol, Evelyn, Marion and Beverley).Chester married Bessie Raven and had one son (Robert). Chester and Bessie lived in a second house built on the home yard.

Daughters Myrtle (Lewis), Aurilla (Anderson) and Mabelle (Rance) married farmers from neighboring farms. Evelyn (Steeves) married a teacher. Ella died of pneumonia while teaching in Armstrong, British Columbia.
